HM-A-School

HM "A" School, Class 051-73, NRMC San Diego, Ca.

Jan 74 - Apr 74

Hospital Corpsman "A" School. Lived in the barracks. Studied in the classrooms. Partied with Naomi Rischel. Need I say more? Oh, I had a motorcycle!

(I don't have any pictures of Naomi because my (Ex-)wife threw them all away while I was at sea one week. And any other pictures of old girlfriends or female friends she could find)

"A" School was really kind of fun. Lot's of training for medical emergencies and sickcall and stuff. The 'field' medicine part was a joke compared to what I went through later at FMF School; but I didn't know that then.

A lot of wounded Viet Nam vets came in to the hospital from Viet Nam. Worked the Urology ward for my two weeks on the wards. Once had to shave a Marine Gunny (old guy. All of 30) with a straight razor and only nicked him once. Used to sit in the head at the barracks late at night and make cassette tapes to my future-Ex. Donated blood to a preemie.

After "A" School I went to Las Vegas to visit my mom for a few days. Left from there to go to visit my future-Ex in Elko and got caught in a bad snow storm (on my bike) before hitting Ely, Nv. Spent a few days in Elko getting to know my future-Ex when her dad almost caught us trying to 'fool around' and kicked me out. Rode in the snow from Elko to Reno almost. Funny now but wasn't then. We really weren't 'doing' anything but I was trying!
