USS-PlymouthRock

USS Plymouth Rock (LSD-29), Little Creek, Va.

Dates...

Demonstrating how to done an OBA.  Drydocked Maryland Shipbuilding & Drydock, Baltimore, Md. (For 16 months 16 days and some odd hours!) Getting home to Virginia Beach almost every weekend. Sometimes. Museums in DC. Bomb scares. Living on a YRBM (sucked). Finally getting to sea and going to GITMO for REFTRA. Midnight swim! Flying out back to Va because I had orders to Calif.

I got so drunk one night, and felt SO bad that I quit drinking. Used to visit the museums in DC as often as possible. The Air and Space Museum is the best!!! Protested in front of the White House (for MIA's) with my wife because it was the only time I was going to get to see her for that month. Dave Calley, HM1. Donald West, HM3. My best friend Bob Russick. Got my High School Diploma. First time I ever saw it snow on the ocean. First time actually at sea when we finally got out of drydock. REFTRA in GITMO was a trip! Great snorkeling though. One night one of the guys decided he was going to swim back to Little Creek and the Captain had me retrieve him. So I guess I really did do something a SAR Wetcrewman would do...  We lived 4 blocks from the beach in Virginia Beach. Found some dino teeth on the beach after a big storm and donated them to the Natural History Museum in DC. Mustang finally died so we bought a van (which we drove to Calif via Utah in).

My second daughter, Rachael Leah, was born at the Naval Hospital, Norfolk during the worst blizzard of the year. We drove there with our tires spinning out all over the place. I had to follow a rope from the parking area to the ER cause you could not see the building it was snowing so hard.

The Rock in drydock. Lots of fun...(16 months 16 days and some odd hours)
