Was the only HM
assigned to the 47 people that manned the station. Had my own Sickbay
that was a small clinic. The Master-at-Arms drove my ambulance for me
while I worked the back. Involved in community disaster drills. Fun! Got
a spiral tib-fib fracture in a ball game against the local high school
team. Had to be driven to David Grant Medical Center at Travis AFB in my
own ambulance. (The picture is of me rappelling about 2 weeks after
getting my leg out of the cast.) Used a cane to walk for about 6 months
after that. Bought my first water bed. We had a fishing pond the state
used to stock. Lived in the barracks for awhile just before getting out
of the Navy for 4 months. Owen & Roxanne Hull. Mork and Mindy and
the original Battlestar Galactica came out. Close Encounters Of The
Third Kind. Used to visit Bob Russick's family in Davis, Ca. Got my EMT
certificate and worked the Emergency room at Travis awhile.
Got out Dec 78 for 4 months. Moved to Utah, worked in a warehouse at the Air Force Base there and hated it. Stan II, my oldest son, was born at the David Grant Medical Center @ Travis AFB. I almost got to deliver him; was in place with catcher's mitt ready to catch him, when he turned over and his heart rate dropped to about half what it was supposed to be. The Doc pushed me out of the way, turned the wife over on her hands and knees and pretty much delivered Stan that way. |
